How it works

Every trip on FishSplit is one a group has already booked and is going on regardless. You’re buying an empty seat, not hoping a trip fills.

A group posts its empty seats

They booked a six-man boat and only filled four. Two seats go up with the date, the port, what they’re fishing for and the house rules.

You ask for a seat

Read the rules first, then request it. The organiser sees your profile and past-trip ratings and says yes or no — you are only charged if they say yes.

Everyone’s cost drops

Your seat money goes to the captain and comes off what the group owes at the dock. The trip was happening anyway; now it costs all of you less.

Your money goes to the captain. Never to a stranger.

Handing cash to someone you met online to join a boat you can’t verify is exactly how people get burned. FishSplit is built so that isn’t possible.

  • The captain confirms the trip

    No seat can be sold until the charter operator confirms the booking is real. Their confirmation is the verification — no screenshots to trust.

  • We hold the money until you sail

    Your payment sits with FishSplit, not with the group who posted the seat. It reaches the captain after the trip runs.

  • Weather cancels? Full refund

    If the captain calls it off, every seat is refunded in full, automatically. The money never left our hands.

Know the boat before you book it

Six hours is a long time with the wrong crowd. Every trip states its rules up front, and the organiser still gets to approve who comes aboard.

Beer or dry boat Stated before you pay, not discovered at 5am.
Meat trip or catch-and-release Including how the box gets split.
Serious fishing or a good time Both are fine. Mixing them by accident isn’t.
Kids aboard or adults only Plus smoking, music and experience level.

Captains: get paid for the seats you sail empty

An empty seat earns nothing. FishSplit fills it on trips you’ve already got on the books — you keep your own bookings, your own customers and your own pricing.
